1. Post the names of 10 of your favorite musicians.
2. See who can guess which is your favorite song by each.
3. As they are answered, I'll post it.

...

Of course, the problem is coming up with a list of just 10 musicians, and then narrowing it down to one track each...

...and to limit it to musicians others might have heard of...

...we'll just go with this list instead:

  1. Fates Warning

  2. Queensryche

  3. Led Zeppelin

  4. Jon Anderson

  5. Rainbow

  6. Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force

  7. Jim Steinman: Tonight is What it Means to be Young (from Streets Of Fire: A Rock & Roll Fable), guessed by [livejournal.com profile] tewok, who listens to nearly as much or maybe more Jim Steinman stuff than I do

  8. Sam & Dave: Soul Man, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] dangerdean

  9. Loreena McKennitt

  10. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem K. 626 in D Minor, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] wyyknot

2. Queensryche - absolutely NOT Silent Lucidity, lol. How about Jet City Woman? or maybe Lady Jane?

10. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - as prolific as he was you expect anyone - your august self included - to pick just ONE? How about all of his Requiem Mass?

re: #10 - yep! Down to the conductor and orchestra, even. I have another performance of the Requiem that I inherited from my dad (it's good, but it shares a two-disc set with a Verdi ~ which is why I have it ~ but it splits one of the pieces across the two discs, which weakens it, although it's not as good a performance...) and I had another performance which I gave to my dad about a decade ago and did not take back when I inherited most of his classical collection.

As for Queensryche, out of those three tunes, I prefer Silent Lucidity by far... in fact, it might be in the top 10 (most of the time - I'd say the top 20-30 move around a lot). Only one tune stays in the top position all the time, though... =)

[identity profile] wyyknot.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
and that one tune is....?

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what needs to be guessed! =)

[identity profile] dangerdean.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
8. Sam & Dave: Soul Man.

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course!

It's all about Steve Cropper, really... =)

Rainbow - Street of Dreams
Led Zeppelin - All of my Love
Loreena McKennitt - All Souls' Night
For what it's worth, I was planning on saying Silent Lucidity, because I really like that song.

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, and no!

Although I do like all of those tunes...

[identity profile] tewok.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd guess the Jim Steinman was either from "Streets of Fire" (Nowhere Fast?, Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young?) or one of his collaborations with Meatloaf.

Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I was figuring you'd get the Steinman one - it was Tonight.... Some of the stuff off of Original Sin, Bad for Good
, or Tanz der Vampire - Das Musical come in to the top 10, along with the more obvious Meat Loaf ones (in a few of the cases of duplication, I prefer Meat's voice, in others I prefer the original.)

Immigrant Song is one of my favorites, but doesn't get top billing. Try again! =)

I've got Original Sin (somewhere, haven't been able to find it for a year) and Bad for Good. You're right, there is some really good music on them. Interesting the evolution of some of his music. I haven't heard Tanz -- yet.

Lessee... if it isn't "Immigrant's Song" then it must be either "Dazed and Confused" or "Heartbreaker".

(And no credit for Steinman? I'm hurt... :)

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oops... corrected the credit there, and added a bit of extra fluff to make up for it! =)

And no X2 on the Zep guesses, although I do like the former better than the latter.

[identity profile] tewok.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Almost as much", since I've not heard Tanz.

One more Zep guess, and that's it for me. "Over the Hills and Far Away to Santa's House We Go". It's from their little-known Christmas album, which was only released in Saudi Arabia and Nepal. Given your contacts and resources, I'm sure you have an original, still in 78 format.

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2008-12-31 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that one goes without saying, but because so few people know about it, I excluded it from this meme. =)

I'm pretty sure I've blogged about this tune (and a number of the others on the list!) before, so all you have to do is remember back to what I've posted in every single entry, and every single reply to every post everyone else has ever done, and it should be a cinch!

[identity profile] patrixa.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
for LZ: "What is and What Should Never Be"

For LMcK: "The Mystic's Dream"

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
No - although that is a great tune - and no - unfortunately, I can't even recall that one based on the title... =)

Try again! =P

[identity profile] patrixa.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
it's from the album " Pure Moods II " from 1997

[identity profile] ellyssian.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I checked. It can also be found on her album that has my favorite tune on it. =)
