Follow-Up

PA Turnpike Crash 12

I neglected to mention that the driver in today's truck crash was not injured severely. He was walking around, and later had ice on his shoulder, but other than that he appeared okay.

What happened? Based on the horns I heard and evidence I saw, someone cut him off. He swerved to avoid them, bounced off the inner guardrail, hit the lane barrier and broke partially through, and then came to a rest in a semi-jack-knifed position. I heard him talking to some other truckers, and one of them had said he couldn't see what had happened, but it seemed to imply another vehicle's involvement.

While workers were attempting to remove concrete from the southbound lane - a lane blocked off by the first reporting state troopers - some idiot decided the one lane wasn't fast enough, and the workers had to get out of the way quickly. The car actually went into the fast lane after they passed the cruiser! One of the troopers jumped back into the cruiser and hunted them down, so I'm sure they went home with a nice, big ticket to make up for their lack of patience.

In other news, the forecast calls for rain, and the window of the car is jammed in the open position.

I am glad the driver was ok.

And I really really love it when people do stupid crap like that (the car, not the truck) with a cop around so they can get nailed for it!

I just couldn't believe it. Also, the folks who were first in line to be witnesses - they were in a rush and had things to do, so they left as soon as some of the rubble was moved - before the police/fire/tow folks arrived to do their part.

Then again, I was an earwitness, and the cops didn't even come over to see if I had been an eyewitness...

The fire company guys did come over, but only because they wanted to use my driveway to haul gear if they needed it - turns out, they didn't.

How scary! People are such ass hats, I swear. Finally, the police around when you need 'em.

Yeah, I'm guessing the trooper wasn't too happy - as he was standing near the workers, he was personally at risk of being hit...

The driver came into the lane despite a bunch of guys in ANSI fluorescent shirts, vests, etc. - turnpike workers & firemen - shouting & waving their arms to get the driver's attention (and to make sure their guys were also aware and had a chance to get out of the way!)

Now THAT is just stunning. You better have a bleeding head wound or a birthing mom in your car to pull crap like that.
