For the record...

...and since I didn't include a disclaimer in that last dietary post, I have absolutely no intention of even attempting to avoid all those foods (with the definite exception of kidneys, liver, avacados, lima beans, dried peas, beans, lard, gravies, milk sherbets, and alcohol and the possible exception of marbled beef, duck, goose, commercial mixes with dried eggs and whole milk, sweet rolls, doughnuts, breakfast pastries, Danishes, sweetened packaged cereals, whole milk, whole milk packaged goods, cream, whole-milk puddings, cream sauces, palm oil, coconut oil, jams, jellies, and sugared fruit juices and soft drinks - the former list I either avoid by nature or don't forsee a problem skipping, the latter list I mostly skip anyway.)

Like them or not, hot dogs tend to be a once a week item because of their low cost, and potatoes (btw. the baked skins of potatoes were listed as a permitted item due to high fiber content), corn, pork, and cheese are frequent fliers in our house.

I'm also looking at making any modifications very slowly - thanks to the wonders of "accurate" digital scales, I can't frickin' tell how much weight I've lost. From the moment immediately prior to going to sleep to the time immediately following waking up, I went from 242 to 236 pounds - the first two measurements I made. Since then, the numbers basically jump up and down by one or two pounds a day, but appear to show a slight downward trend, which is what I'm aiming for. Significant changes to my diet - especially to something as abusive as that "Avoid" list - would drop my weight in unhealthy amounts. According to all the NAFLD sites, 1-2 pounds per week is safe weight loss - anything else risks an increased chance of turning relatively harmless NAFLD into something nastier, and very possibly quite deadly.

I am - and have been, over the previous two years when I was first handed almost the same diet (it is now updated with additional information about faulty labelling by products claiming low cholesterol products) - altering things slowly. I'm cutting back on portion size and I'm paying more attention to the types of food I eat, and I'm tweaking things as I go.

If anyone wants to help out, there's a cookbook or two and some citrus (and other edible plants) on my wish list over at Amazon.com! =)

Workout Updatia

This week we upped the ante in our workout - some things that were at low, introductory rates were hiked up 150%-400% or more, and some new things were added.

Somewhat sore legs and noticeably better breathing are the result.

flexion, hamstrings, and other words like that... )
